Malus 'Flamingo'
Malus Flamingo is an open pollinated seedling of Malus “Tom Matthews”. New foliage is dark red, changing later to dark green in summer, before developing striking red and gold autumn colours in late autumn. The bark of new growth is also a very deep red. The tree has moderate vigour and upright habit; the original seedling has grown to 3.5m. over 7 years. Small dark red crab apples are produced in autumn and fall before leaf fall is complete. Indications are that it needs to be propagated on a vigorous rootstock and efforts to propagate it on its own roots have failed. Appears to be disease resistant.
